Bobbin Mounts

This website is live, and can be used for purchasing 'off-the-shelf' products. However, please note that construction of the site is in progress and more products are available than those shown here. Please contact us for more information if needed.

We are proud to list a number of global brands as our customers.  If you have a bespoke requirement, call us on +44 (0)1985 219032, or use the 'Get In Touch' page, to see why they chose us

Product Quality:

We manufacture and supply a wide range of bobbins. Circa 80% of these are manufactured in our Wiltshire-based factory where we have been for over 30 years. Partners and their products have been quality checked by us, before we agree to sell them to our customers; we have a tight grasp of quality in everything we sell.

We are ISO 9001 certified, and have received excellent feedback from our independent auditors.

Range of rubber bobbin sizes

AVMR manufacture and supply a wide range of bobbin mounts

Uses for Bobbins:

Bobbin mounts represent one of the most versatile of all vibration isolators by virtue of their simplicity of construction and application. A wide range of sizes coupled with alternative rubber types, hardness, shapes, and threads provides solutions to a wide variety of applications.

Materials

The following material information applies to most products that we manufacture. More detailed information on each product will be provided for each product.

Rubber:

Natural Rubber compounds are our most popular as they are normally the most suitable for the application. Natural rubber has excellent resilience and isolation properties, which are the key factors for these products.

If oil or solvent resistance is required then Neoprene/Nitrile rubbers are a more sensible option although isolation efficiency can be compromised.

Metals and corrosion protection:

Most bobbins that we manufacture have Class 2 Sherardized coated mild steel metal components. This coating offers good corrosion protection (circa 30 hour salt spray test protection). If required, we can increase this level of protection by up to 20 times, or use alternative metals, however our standard protection is suitable for most customer's requirements.

Bonding Agents:

On our products we use a particularly powerful and stable bonding agent system which is applied in a 3 stage process. Many companies use a single coat system, however strength and resistance to environmental attack in harsh conditions are reduced with the lower cost single coat options, so all of our products take the higher specification multiple coat system.

Installation:

These mounts are used in compression, shear or a combination of compression and shear. The latter combination provides an optimum for stability and isolation efficiency. These mounts are not intended for use in tension although some customers do use them this way, there is a suggested alternative mounting method below for hanging applications.

Most of the bobbin mounts manufactured by AVMR are to the diablo (wasted) style providing additional flexibility due to the reduced diameter whilst providing a large bonded area for long service life.

Typical Applications

Fans, motors, compressors, electrical equipment commensurate with loading requirements. Automotive applications include mountings for water or oil coolers. These mounts are used for both active and passive vibration suppression and shock protection.

Materials

Rubber: 5 Standard grades of natural rubber (polyisoprene) plus 3 polychloroprene (Neoprene™) grades

Metal: Zinc plated or sherardized and passivated (nuts & lock washers yellow passivated)

Material selection can be made from the following materials/grades. Identification is based on a colour coding system.

For most bobbins, each size comes in 3 configurations (if there is a connection only at one end the bobbin is known as a bump stop):

Rubber bobbins in three configurations male-male, male-female, female-female

1. Three standard bobbin configurations: male-female, male-male and female-female. Bobbins also come as bumpstops with a connection at one end one.

These mounts are normally used with 3+ mounts making up a support system and can be installed in a number of configurations:

Rubber Bobbin standard installation configurations

2. Standard mounting configurations for bump stops

To avoid mounting bobbins in tension, we would normally recommend using a bracket to convert the tension into compression:

3. Bobbin in a hung configuration

Bobbin Mounts and Variants

Bobbin mounts represent one of the most versatile of all vibration isolators by virtue of their simplicity of construction and installation. A wide range of sizes from 6mm to 150mm in diameter and with M3 to M20 thread sizes, coupled with alternative rubber hardness and bobbin shapes for many of the variants provide solutions to numerous standard applications.

These mounts, produced in a range of natural rubber (polyisoprene) grades are extensively used where maximum resilience and isolation is the key selection factor and oil or solvent resistance is not an issue. Some product ranges are also available in alternative materials including Nitrile, polychloroprene (Neoprene), EPDM etc., where oil or chemical resistance is required - although isolation efficiency would be slightly compromised. Some versions are also available in 316 stainless steel.

Cylindrical and wasted designs are included in the range together with some high deflection hollow mounts.

Special Bobbin Mount Styles

The Vibrostop Conic, Vibrostop Conic Marine (CMM) and RLF mounts are designed for increased deflection (and hence improved isolation in some applications). Separate sections for these and the Vibrostop Metalflex range can be accessed via the pictures above.
